As far as I am concerned, names are very important and mean so much.
I looked up...google search on the meaning of Catherine... I find it very interesting: the origins and the meaning in those different origins.
My understanding is that my dad named me Catherine. I have always loved that name but to my young dismay, I was called Cathy until I moved to Palm Springs at 30 years old where I knew no one! My Chance! I flipped the switch, I did not change my name but started to use the name that I was given; Catherine. Yes, it is on my birth certificate.
The strange thing about being called Cathy for my first 30 years is that it never felt like me. I never felt like a Cathy, I always felt like a Catherine. And today, when I am called Cathy by childhood friends or some family, I have to take a deep breath and answer to Cathy. But I will say, if you just met me, do not try to call me Cathy, I will not respond...I do not hear it unless it is from a voice I recognize.
I was so honored when my oldest daughter named her daughter Caitlin. She is called Caty and is true to her name. She is a Caty!
So, what's in a name? For me it is a lot. Have you checked into what your name means?
