My time with an old Cowboy, my dad..

This week I went out to visit my dad in Hemet..  I try to see him every few months but have tried to go more often sense he is nearly 84...   He is fun to hang out with and he really cracks me up.

My dad, like most older people, remember names and dates from 60 years ago... I thought, this is a good time to learn about how he became a bare back rider in the rodeo..

I had my smart phone, discreetly turned on the voice recorder and started asking him questions...  We went from his birth in Victorville to how he ended up in Hemet.. He is such a great story teller, but I had to keep him on track.. After 30 minutes, he peered at me over his glasses and questions... "Are you recording me?"  "No Dad! No!!!"  giggles to laughter..."No dad!  Yes dad...I am recording you..."  And then... uncontrollable laughter on my part as he gives me those classic Rece Watson looks..

My dad is an open book and so funny in the faces he was making...I laughed for nearly 30 minutes...  He whispers, "did you record the part where I stopped at that gals house?"  Again, Laughter...and he then confesses "NOTHING Happened!"  Again I lost it...

A couple years ago I spent 3 days in a car with dad...he talked non stop..if only I could remember everything he said, so this time, I thought...I am recording this..  I am so glad I did...

My dad lives on his own, cooks for himself, and does all his own running around via the public bus.
I have no idea when he will not be here any longer...I have had fun getting to know my dad.. I need more taped interviews with that old Cowboy!

Thanks Dad for the Laughs...

PS...I will transcribe the interview...
